An open letter to the U.S. Congress Police Brutality: Enough is Enough!
8 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers! Living in one of the most segregated cities in the country, I reap the benefits of white privilege every day. But when I drive 10 minutes East, I am reminded of the great disparity between the two neighborhoods; one almost entirely white, the other almost entirely black. This in itself is appalling, not to mention the pain and fear felt by those in majority black neighborhoods because of the liberty that our government has given to the police force. It is acceptable for the police to murder unarmed and nonviolent people. It is acceptable for the police to shoot rubber bullets at peaceful protestors expressing their 1st amendment rights. It is acceptable for the police to mace and tear gas anyone they please. Like we saw in Minneapolis, it was acceptable for the police to shoot paint pellets at people sitting on their front porch at night. The excessive force used by police is disgusting, and should not be tolerated. It is above American standards, and the standards of the human population. We need police reform now. There is no other option
