Expel Seditious Legislators
Last night, for the first time since 1812, the halls of Congress were breached, not by a foreign adversary but by a horde of domestic terrorists seeking to subvert the democratic will of the people through violence, intimidation and lawless authoritarianism. As the certification of the 2020 election (a clear victory for former Vice President Joe Biden) began, shots rang out in the Capitol and the People’s House was immediately surrounded and then quickly occupied by President Trump’s most aggressive and vitriolic sycophants. Members of Congress were forced into hiding. Law enforcement officers were overwhelmed and assaulted. At least four people were killed and many others were injured in what has been rightly described as a “siege” of the United States. Remain strong and determined in these frightening times. Do not back down in the face of this violent brutality which has, for all of human history, sought to silence the people’s voice, crush the people’s will, and blind the people to their true political power. Remember that despite the boasting of tyrants and demogaugs, they will fail. They always have. As your constituent and neighbor, I demand that each and every member of either chamber who abetts, encourages, empowers, or enables, in any way, the violent and seditious conduct that took place in the Capitol and around the country today (January 6, 2021) be immediately removed from their position in the legislature and permanently disqualified from any future public office. In particular, I echo the sentiment of former Republican State Representative Adam Kwasman and demand the expulsion and disqualification from any future public office of Arizona State Representative Mark Finchem, a participant in and advocate for today’s violence who, by his own admission, attended and engaged in today’s unlawful and anti-republican attack on the United States Capitol Building. Representative Finchem’s conduct in our Nation’s Capitol was unlawful for any citizen, unbecoming of an elected official, and unacceptable in a democratic republic. His continued presence in Arizona’s State Legislature would be a permanent blight on that body’s legitimacy and an insult to every American who died in defense of freedom, democracy and our republican form of government. We have been blessed with a republic, if we can keep it. We cannot keep both a republic and seditionists.
