An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Please don’t punish college students

13 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

I’m a 19yr old college student who, due to COVID-19, may not be able to afford another year of college since my whole family is not allowed to return to work for the time being. While this bill may be helpful for my parents to continue putting food on the table and a roof over our head, it’s not enough to continue paying my tuition. That’s why I was excited that I’d be able to help out and pay for my tuition with the money being allocated to dependents; however, I now know that even though I’m a dependent, I’m too old for that money, and I’m not allowed to have the money given to tax payers even though I’ve paid taxes for a few years now because my dad claims me on his taxes. This bill may be helping some but it’s not covering the large amount of individuals who are in the same situation that I am. Please give more consideration to a population that is struggling just as much as everyone else during this time. We’re all in need and just want to be shown that our decision to get an education is being rewarded not punished.
