An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Support Justice in Policing Act of 2020

6 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

I'm writing to demand that you support the Justice in Policing Act of 2020, which will ban chokeholds, establish a national database to track police misconduct and prohibit certain no-knock warrants, among other initiatives. It is essential that we make it easier to hold officers accountable for misconduct in civil and criminal court, and this bill will do just that. The time is now to expand the Justice Department’s powers to investigate and prosecute police misconduct, especially as we see hundreds of cases of police brutality caught on video against peaceful protesters, including black elected officials in Columbus, Ohio. Over the last decade, we have seen “qualified immunity,” shields officer from lawsuits, and we must lower the bar for plaintiffs to sue officers for alleged civil rights violations. The country is angry. I am angry. You should be angry. Stand against police brutality. Stand against racist police practices. Stand with the democrats and support this bill.
