Change Utah’s Electoral College Method to the Congressional District Method

7 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

I am writing to urge you to look at the way Utah employs the “winner takes all” method to our electoral college in the presidential elections. Currently, approximately ⅓ of Utahns disapprove of President Trump. This means that by awarding all 6 of Utah’s electoral votes to the winner of Utah’s popular vote, ⅓ of Utah’s citizens are NOT being represented in the nation’s electoral vote. I have also been urging citizens from other states to contact their state representatives asking them to do the same. The electoral vote should reflect the popular vote more accurately, and states adopting the “congressional district” method that Maine and Nebraska use will make that happen. This is an issue that is outside party lines. Having a representative government means that the people should be and feel represented. Changing Utah’s electoral college method to the congressional district method will also encourage a better voter turnout. Citizens get discouraged by the winner takes all method because if you voted differently than the majority of your state, it feels like your voice isn’t being recognized. This is something that should be happening in every state; please help Utah set the example of making sure that Utah residents feel more represented in the electoral college. More people would be willing to vote knowing they would have at least some representation when the electors vote in December.
