Tamir Rice Birthday - Support Police Reform

8 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

Tamir Rice should be celebrating his 18th birthday today. When he was 12, someone called 911 and reported a suspicious male pointing a gun in a park. The caller went on to clarify that the male appeared to be a juvenile and that the gun looked fake. When the officers arrived on scene, one of them told Tamir to lift his hands. As Tamir complied, he was shot twice by the officer who gave the instructions. The time between the officers' arrival and the shooting was two seconds. Prior to being hired in Cleveland, the officer who killed Tamir was forced to resign from the police force in Independence, OH, because he was deemed too emotionally unstable to be a police officer. This did not keep him from being hired in Cleveland, where he would go on to kill Tamir. Neither of the officers involved in Tamir's shooting death were indicted. I share this story with you in hopes that you will support meaningful police reform in our country and help dismantle the systemic racism that has allowed Black and Indigenous People of Color to be subjected to generations of injustice. Please publicly support and vote in favor of meaningful police reform that will help bring to an end centuries of injustice inflicted upon Black and Indigenous People of Color.
