An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures Coronavirus and Mariner East
22 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! All non-essential work in Chester County has been requested to shut down in efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19. As an hourly worker who can't work from with no sick pay, I am still grateful for this request and it is needed.
I urge you to immediately mandate that Sunoco halt all construction of Mariner East. This non-essential work is a burden during this public health crisis in many ways. The DEP South Eastern regional office has been closed, which means there is no oversight. The construction noise is causing additional mental stress on neighbors that are now confirmed to their homes with no break from the construction noises, smells and sights. The out of state workers are transient within our community, traveling among different townships potentially spreading this deadly virus to hotel workers, convenience stores workers, etc.
We all know that construction of this pipeline for plastics is NOT ESSENTIAL. You are asking Chester County employees and businesses to comply with your request, but it is clear Sunoco has no plans to do so, unless you issue a direct order.
Please help keep us safe and order construction stopped immediately.
