HEROES Act of 2020

The HEROES Act of 2020 proposes tax relief for many frontline healthcare providers, including pharmacists like myself, for our work on the frontlines of treating our patients and communities during COVID-19. I am very happy that Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI) requested pharmacists be added to this piece of legislation since our medication expertise is invaluable to the healthcare team at a time when we are treating severely critically ill patients with very complex medications. But a very important group was left out from this piece of legislation and one we as pharmacists would not be able to do our jobs without. Our pharmacy technicians are working tirelessly to prepare compounded sterile products, procure medications while balancing critical drug shortages, interviewing patients and their family members to collect their medication histories and most importantly delivering the life saving medications to the healthcare team. Pharmacy technicians are doing very important work in the community pharmacy setting as well, preparing prescriptions efficiently so their patients are able to stay safely in their homes. It's for these reasons that pharmacy technicians are deserving of the tax relief provided by the HEROES Act of 2020. I hope you will consider their inclusion in this piece of legislation and recognition as essential personnel in the uphill battle we are fighting against COVID-19. Regards,
