An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures

Reform our Inherently Racist Police System

16 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

Dear Governor Evers, Senator Kooyenga, and Representative Vining, It is important to me that you, as the governing officials of the state of Wisconsin, support legislation that would help reform our police system, such as Aryanna Pressleys résolution on police brutality. As a White female in a relatively middle class neighborhood, I don't see a lot of police force up close, but as a resident of Milwaukee county, I am highly aware of it's prevalence in our society. I am a privileged person, so it would be incredibly ignorant of me to not use that privilege to help those who do not have it. At the end of the day, innocent people are dying. That's it. That's what it is. If you are ignoring the loss of these innocent lives, you might as well be as bad as the murderer. This should not be a hard decision, yet somehow the arrest of thousands of peaceful protesters is more important than the arrest of three police officers. Our system is inherently racist. If you are not working to solve this problem, then you are part of the problem. It is no longer enough to be quietly not racist, we must be actively and loudly anti racist. I implore you to vote in favor of any legislation that may help reorganize our police system in a way that allows everyone to truly be equal.
