An open letter to State Governors (TX only) Reinstate Mail-in Vote Drop Off Locations NOW
15 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! (Trigger warning, this letter contains data and factual information.)
I am deeply disappointed and confused by your decision to limit drop off locations for mail in ballots to 1 per county. Your president has invested heavily in the dismantling of our postal service, so I understand why many voters were hoping to use this drop off service.
Maybe you were misinformed when you made this decision. Maybe you didn’t know that:
Harris county has 4.7 million people spread across 9 congressional districts and 1,700 square miles,
Or
Travis county is home to 1.2 million people in 5 congressional districts across 1,000 square miles
Or
Tarrant county boasts 2 million citizens in 6 congressional districts and 900 square miles
And
Dallas county houses 2.6 million people in 5 congressional districts and 900 square miles.
Coincidentally, many of the voters in these counties contributed to the 43% of the votes won by your 2018 opponent, Lupe Valdez. They nearly ousted Ted Cruz and helped Beto win 48% of the votes in that race. Now, we are helping MJ Hegar in her run against Senator Cornyn. He will either lose or win by only a few points, just as Cruz did. You’re sitting on an expiring party ticket.
At best, you made an ignorant decision, or are feeling pressured by your peers. At worst, you are seeking to suppress votes from citizens that likely disagree with your platform. Either scenario is despicable of an elected official.
Reverse your decision immediately.
