COVID-19: We're All Responsible to Help Each Other in Crisis

11 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

As a public official I want to begin by saying I am incredibly grateful for many of the public health measures that have been put in place to encourage social distancing and help limit how overwhelmed our healthcare system might become without serious decisions. What I would like to see, in the meantime, however, is for emergency funding to be provided to small businesses, service workers, restaurants and staff, and all the other many important local places in our communities who have to make such significant sacrifices including going out of business, employees losing their jobs, and those whose income has been impacted and impacting their ability to pay their basic utility bills, mortgage/rent, and feed their families -- not to mention the lack of health insurance possible which may cause those who develop the COVID-19 significant symptoms and have to add major medical bills they already cannot afford. I implore you to put forward whatever can be done to ease the sacrifice our communities are making as a result of the current important public health measures in place. It is simple to see that money - whether an opportunity for assistance or an option for these individuals to have their basic bills (especially rent) delayed, if not requiring landlords to not collect rent or even only partial rent. Our entire community must band together and make sacrifices and those that have not been effected yet can help the rest of us by "flattening the curve," much like the goal of social distancing, all our businesses will be impacted either today or tomorrow--if we share the burden collectively today, we can flatten out the economic, social, and health impacts we know we can expect without relief to our most vulnerable in health and even mildly vulnerable in finances. Any relief is good relief. Please make the right choice and make sure we take care of our own.
