I’m a constituent from Santa Monica and a member of Indivisible CA-33.
I’m writing today to urge the Senator to demand lawmakers call for an investigation into the actions of the Postmaster General Louis Dejoy to ensure that the USPS is given the resources and support it needs to function smoothly. There already exists a bi-partisan effort including two Republican Senators and over 80 members of the House to demand a reversal of the changes enacted by Dejoy and I urge you to join this group if you have not yet done so. A record number of voters plan to use mail-in ballots in light of the pandemic, and a reliable postal service is essential. This should not be a partisan issue, but like everything else in the Trump era and under this administration, where basic facts and the underpinnings of our country and our democracy are under attack by Trump’s GOP enablers and spread by Trumpian “news” outlets like Fox and other purveyors of cult propaganda and disinformation, as well as the army of social media bots and trolls, the post office is under attack. The post office is just about the most American institution there is, and I am sure you’re aware that this Trumpist attack is not only an attempt to subvert the election and cast doubt on the validity of voting by mail, but also an attempt by another Trumpist billionaire to privatize a public service and seize unlawful control of one of the government entities that has historically employed many Americans of color. The USPS is essential, its workers are essential, and we must fund and protect the USPS and its employees.
Thank you for your time and attention.
