An open letter to the U.S. Congress

New Policies for Police Unions

6 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

Good morning, I hope this message finds you safe and healthy, I'm sending this message to demand the immediate drafting of legislation by Congress to limit the power of police unions. This is the systemic change that is required. To that end I am calling on you, as my representative in Congress, to immediately form a committee to draft this essential legislation. Police unions' history of protecting their bad actors by shielding them from consequences and allowing them to continue working in law enforcement, after receiving complaints of excessive force, is completely unacceptable. This legislation would eject such officers from their unions and bar them from ever working in law enforcement again. In addition to a zero tolerance policy regarding excessive force, legislation needs to be put in place preventing people that don't live in the communities they protect from being a police officer in that community. If you don't live in that community then you will be far less likely to know or care about the people you're supposed to be helping. These are simple solutions that I urge you to take immediate action on. This is the only way to bring about lasting change in our communities. Thank you for your time.
