No salons in phase one reopening

28 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

Hello, I am contacting you as a concerned citizen for many independent contractors that will be included in phase one reopening, particularly hairdressers Hairdressers have close contact with multiple clients per day, and are valued laborers within our society. However, it is not only unwise but inequitable to include salons and barbershops in phase one reopening. There is no way to cut hair while social distancing, and the amount of ppe that would be required for them to safely subject themselves would take much needed supplies away from those on the front line, OR leave workers exposed. Please reconsider their position in reopening. I care deeply about my hairdresser, and I support her right to protect herself. While I fully believe salons are essential businesses in the sense that they are important for self care needs, I don't believe they need opened during a pandemic. Lives over looks. Please don't force independent contractors back to work by including them in the first phase. Many who don't feel safe doing so will return because of financial circumstances. Not only is this inequitable, it is straight up wrong and puts vulnerable workers at risk.
