Dear Government Officials,
I hope this letter meets you in good health and spirit. I understand you all are working hard to deal with the current COVID-19 crisis and I appreciate your dedication to your country and state.
However, I have some concerns in regards to federal unemployment checks that I feel is of the utmost importance.
I don’t understand why college students aren’t getting money for the COVID-19 crisis. As a college student, who is still considered a dependent, but works 40 hours a week to pay for food, an apartment, car insurance, and much more, I find it very frustrating that we can not claim unemployment to receive a check. Many of my friends and I have been forced to zero hours by our employers and forced to move out of our college living arrangements. As a group of people who are trying to better ourselves through higher education and develop an independent lifestyle, we feel extremely neglected by our government. Everyone knows that college students are typically struggling for money, and to deny them an opportunity to receive this money is a slap in the face to outstanding citizens. In addition to this, allowing dependents under 17 to receive up to $700, when they aren’t typically using the money to pay for bills, is a further show of disrespect to those 18-25 who actually need the money. The government is already using college students for their money through the hideous student loan system, so hope the government can reevaluate this decision to further neglect a generation that contributes highly to their communities, states, and country.
Thank you for your time and I hope you all and your families are safe, happy and healthy. God Bless.
