An open letter to the U.S. Senate

We Need JUSTICE in Massachusetts!

23 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

I am a concerned Massachusetts citizen. For hundreds of years, Black folks in this country have been fighting for their rights, and this issue has reached a boiling point. We cannot stay silent any longer, and I urge you to use your voice and platform to, as well. There needs to be a change in the way police are utilized in this state. As a resident in Dracut and a student in Worcester, I see the differences between how police forces are utilized in middle and upper income levels versus lower income levels. There NEEDS to be a reevaluation to how we see and use police in this state. They are overutilized and overfunded. We need to THINK critically about these issues. Last night, protests grew violent in Boston. It is very disturbing to me that there are claims, and ones with evidence, that Boston police not only initiated this violence, but also blocked protestors from escaping. This is absolutely unacceptable. Use your platform to do something about police brutality against Black people. Create dialogue, increase criminal charges for police brutality, decrease police presence in low income areas with people of color. There are other ways to help people than by using police. It is obvious, but we need your help to make a change.
