An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Honoring Ruth Bader Ginsburg and our democracy

69 so far! Let’s get to 100 signers!

The Senate Majority Leader, within hours of RBG's death, has released a statement. There will be a nomination. There will be a vote. This is shocking hypocrisy. The next SCOTUS nomination should happen after Inauguration Day. Maybe then we need a time limit on how many days can transpire between a nomination and a vote. Manipulating this branch of government is NOT what our founding fathers intended. Every single time I have voted in a presidential election, my top deciding factor has been judicial appointments. I have always felt that those 293 days where Garland's nomination was blocked broke our system of checks and balances. I want to have faith in our system. Waiting until January to nominate, regardless of who wins the election, could be considered steps to lessen the divide in our country. You must NOT let Mitch McConnell run this country. It's shameful and traitorous. It is absolutely depraved that we cannot mourn this mountain of a woman's death without the fear of whatever's left of our democracy crumbling. Stand up for your constituents. Stand up for our democracy. We are running out of time to keep it.
