An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Barrett confirmation hearings

7 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

Dear Senators Harris and Feinstein – I would like to share with you for your consideration a recommendation I saw concerning questioning during Barrett’s nomination hearings: instead of asking her the usual questions about her stand on Stare Decisis re Roe V. Wade and whether her strong religious beliefs will influence her decisions – questions she will be able to and surely will dodge – ask her to explain to the American people the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution and how she views, in that context, Trump requiring his entourages and foreign leaders to stay at his hotels, his attempt to push the UK to move the British Open to his golf course, and trying to get the G7 moved to Mara Lago; ask her to explain to the American people the Hatch Act and to share her feelings about Kellyanne Conway’s 60 violations (list them) of the Hatch Act and of Trump’s use of the White House during his convention; read to her the transcript of Trump’s “perfect call” with Ukraine and ask her if anything about that bothers her; ask her about how she view’s Congress’ oversight role of the Executive branch. These questions will help Americans see this president’s countless abuses of power and force his nominee to opine on them.
