An open letter to the U.S. Congress URGENT: Increase production and distribution of PPE to fight covid-19
32 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers! I am very concerned about the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) for our medical care workers in this nation, and I am calling on you to work with the manufacturing industry to urgently produce more stock.
A friend of a friend just heard from someone connected to the Johns Hopkins medical center: "We are at the warehouse literally gluing together parts of industrial plastic and foam donated by Amazon to create a convoluted and probably ineffective set of jury rigged protective equipment. That's what one of the best hospital systems in the country has to resort to."
To state the obvious: health care workers are on the frontlines of this crisis. They are our beloved friends and family. WE NEED THEM. If they can't work, even more of us are going to suffer and die than need to. When the government fails to do its part to support manufacture and distribution of these items, it will be responsible for those deaths.
The federal government needs to take action now! Please let me know what you plan to do about this essential part of the plan to confront the unprecedented threat posed by covid-19.
