An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Investigate inhumane conditions at ICE family detention centers

186 so far! Let’s get to 250 signers!

I've received messages from groups that care about immigrants in the U.S. that conditions are seriously deteriorating in the LaSalle and Jackson Parish ICE family detention centers after Hurricane Laura. There are still children in these centers, although a federal judge has ordered that they be released; ICE never complied. Reports are that families are trapped in cells that are now flooded, some reported that there is sewage in the water (not unexpected!), and that it is ankle deep. There is no electricity and the Louisiana heat is oppressive in August. If these reports are true, these are inhumane conditions for anyone and very dangerous for the spread of disease and sickness. Most immigrants are lawfully seeking refuge in this country -- there is no reason for them to be treated this way. I implore you to investigate and use all the resources of Congress to insure no ICE detention center anywhere is treating the people being held there like this.
