An open letter to the U.S. Congress Urgent: Inappropriate Use of Force by the Executive - Insurrection Act of 1807
12 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! It has come to my attention, that this evening in the Rose Garden at the White House, Donald Trump announced he would seek to use The Insurrection Act of 1807 to put down civil disobedience throughout the country. Multiple leaders have called for him to quit adding fuel to the fire of unrest by attempting to strong-arm citizens into submission. Much of the unrest being seen is a direct result of policies, positions, or actions this administration has used, held, or taken, respectively.
As my elected representative, I'm directing you to work with your colleagues in Congress to act as an equal power to the Executive, and get the White House in-line with the best interests of our country; which, does not include militarizing our streets. Trump's actions set a dangerous precedent. The government is to blame for racial injustices surviving into the 21st century, and it is expected that the government now correct course. This is not a request, it is a demand of the governed from which you draw your authority. Get to work.
