The passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a tragedy in and of itself, and that tragedy is compounded by the precarious state of our democracy at this moment. We are weeks away from election day, and the American voters deserve to have a voice in determining who will select the next Supreme Court justice. After Scalia's passing in February 2016, the GOP refused to move forward with President Obama's nominee citing the proximity of his passing to the next election. This logic, carried out, had a massive impact on the makeup of the highest court in the land, and it is an imperative that the same logic be applied to this vacancy. If Trump and the GOP play tricks to fill the seat before the next President and Senate Majority Leader are determined and sworn in, the Democratic Party has an obligation to begin packing the Court at the earliest possible moment in order to restore the structural balance of power. This institution is too crucial to our democratic health to be bullied around the way the GOP has done in the past. Do everything you can to protect the integrity of the Court and our nation's balances of power. Do not stop. Do not give them everything. We need you to step up and fight for our country.
