Reject disastrous H.R. 1, protect vital services
To: Rep. Hageman

The so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (H.R. 1) is a destructive piece of legislation that would enact the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in decades. It would increase the federal deficit by a staggering $2.4 trillion to finance tax cuts for the wealthy, while imposing devastating cuts to vital government programs that millions of Americans rely on. The bill proposes deep cuts to Medicaid, including harsh new work requirements that would strip healthcare from the most vulnerable. It seeks to restrict eligibility and increase costs for those dually enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid, placing an unfair burden on our seniors and disabled citizens. Furthermore, it would triple the budget for ICE and Trump's inhumane mass deportation efforts, tearing families apart and undermining our values as a nation of immigrants. The proposed legislation also aims to gut clean energy incentives and climate protections, hindering our efforts to combat the existential threat of climate change. It would slash funding for SNAP, exacerbating hunger and food insecurity for millions of low-income families. The bill callously defunds Planned Parenthood, jeopardizing access to essential healthcare services for many. In the realm of education, the bill would impose an increased excise tax on college endowments, making higher education even less accessible. It seeks to alter student loan eligibility, protections, and repayment options, placing an additional burden on students and their families. Alarmingly, the bill also proposes a national private school voucher program, diverting funds from our public education system. I urge you to reject this harmful legislation and instead prioritize the well-being of working families, communities, and the environment over tax cuts for the wealthy few. A responsible budget should uplift and empower the people, not strip them of essential services and protections. Please stand firm against H.R. 1 and fight for a fair and equitable budget that serves the interests of all Americans.
