I am writing to express my grave concern regarding President Donald Trump’s actions, which I believe jeopardize the very foundations of our democracy. I urge you to rise above party lines and support impeachment proceedings to preserve our nation’s values and protect the Constitution. President Trump’s actions, such as his attempt to freeze federal funds to states and cities based on political retaliation, have demonstrated an alarming disregard for the democratic process. His attempt to weaponize federal resources for political gain undermines our system of checks and balances, and sets a dangerous precedent for future leaders. Additionally, his efforts to end birthright citizenship—a cornerstone of our nation’s inclusive values—undermine the protections guaranteed to all individuals, regardless of their place of birth. This attack on the 14th Amendment’s guarantees is a direct assault on the civil liberties of many Americans, and shows a willingness to disregard longstanding legal precedent in the pursuit of ideological goals. Further, President Trump’s repeated dismissal of inspectors general in various federal agencies has allowed corruption and maladministration to flourish unchecked. These positions exist as critical oversight mechanisms, and his attempts to remove them have weakened our government’s ability to hold itself accountable to the American people. By sidelining these independent watchdogs, the President has ensured that many critical issues, including potential abuses of power, go unchecked. Finally, I would be remiss if I did not mention the pardons President Trump has issued, particularly to individuals involved in the January 6 insurrection. These actions undermine the rule of law and provide a disturbing message that those who engage in violence to overthrow our democracy can be rewarded with clemency. I urge you to take action, not out of political allegiance, but out of a sense of duty to the Constitution and the principles that bind our republic. As a Republican representative, you have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership and prioritize the health of our democracy over partisan divisions, just as several of your colleagues did during the impeachment of President Trump following the January 6th attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust you will act in the best interest of our country and our democracy.
