Investigate Musk aides' unauthorized government data access breach

To: Sen. Cortez Masto, Sen. Rosen, Rep. Lee

From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV

February 4, 2025

As a concerned citizen, I must voice my grave apprehensions regarding the unrestrained access granted to Elon Musk's associates over the government's most sensitive computer systems and data repositories. Reports of these individuals locking out career civil servants from the Office of Personnel Management's systems that safeguard personal records of millions of federal employees represent an egregious security breach. Allowing private parties with potential conflicts of interest to freely access these critical databases jeopardizes the privacy of American citizens and opens the door to exploitation. We have a civic duty to maintain rigorous oversight and full transparency over who can view such highly sensitive information. Swift action is imperative to revoke any unauthorized access, launch an investigation into this serious lapse, and fortify robust safeguards against future violations that could compromise national security and shatter public trust in our institutions. Such unrestrained overreach strikes at the core principles of democratic accountability to the populace that our nation was founded upon. I urge our elected representatives to take decisive steps to uphold the sanctity of our public systems.
