I am writing to urge you to support the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act of 2026 (S. 3574/H.R. 8085). As your constituent, I am shocked that Republican leaders passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and that President Trump launched a war with Iran, while the federal deficit has climbed to roughly $2 trillion in fiscal year 2026. Fiscal responsibility cannot mean demanding sacrifices from working families while approving costly tax cuts for wealthy people and starting illegal military operations without a credible plan to pay for them. The numbers should trouble every taxpayer, especially conservatives who believe government should live within its means. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that Public Law 119-21, the law commonly called OBBBA, will add about $3.4 trillion to deficits over 2025 through 2034 under its July 2025 estimate. Updated projections have put the law’s debt impact still higher when economic and interest effects are included. Meanwhile, the latest federal budget figures show the fiscal 2026 deficit rose by $218 billion from the previous year. The war has added tens of billions in direct military costs, with further costs for replacing equipment and servicing the borrowing. It has also disrupted energy markets, adding pressure to prices paid by households and businesses. S. 3574/H.R. 8085 offers a targeted way to raise revenue without increasing taxes on ordinary families. It would apply only to household net worth above $50 million, with a higher rate for wealth above $1 billion. The bill also includes reporting, valuation, enforcement, and anti-avoidance provisions. These are important safeguards, and Congress should ensure they are administered carefully and transparently. This is not about punishing success. It is about asking those with extraordinary fortunes to contribute modestly toward the stability and security that make prosperity possible. The country cannot keep borrowing at this scale and pass the bill to our children. Nor is it credible to claim concern about deficits while supporting policies that reduce revenue and authorize expensive conflicts without adequate offsets. Please cosponsor and vote for S. 3574/H.R. 8085, and support serious deficit reduction that examines both spending and revenue. I expect my representative to apply fiscal discipline progressively, not shift the costs of paying for the deficit to those with the least means of paying for it.
