Don't Silence Our Schools: Fight Back Against the Trump Administration's Attack on Diversity! Why is this important? Our schools are the heart of our communities, where children learn not only reading and math but also the values of empathy, respect, and understanding. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs are vital to creating inclusive learning environments that prepare our students for the diverse world they will inherit. Yet, the Trump administration is attempting to silence our schools by threatening to withhold federal funding from public schools that support DEI initiatives. In a recent directive, the U.S. Department of Education has declared that any DEI program that "advantages one's race over another—is impermissible," putting these crucial programs at risk. This is a direct attack on the progress we've made in creating fair and equitable learning environments for all students. The Impact: Undermines Equity: DEI programs help address historical and systemic inequities, ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed. Limits Learning: A diverse and inclusive environment enhances the educational experience for all students, fostering critical thinking and cultural understanding. Damages Communities: Defunding these programs will disproportionately affect schools with high populations of low-income students, widening the achievement gap. We demand that the U.S. Department of Education immediately reverse this directive and cease efforts to defund schools based on their commitment to DEI principles. We call on our elected officials to stand with our students, educators, and communities in defense of diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. Join us in standing up for a future where every student has the opportunity to thrive.  Don't give in- hold the line and democracy.
