Members of Congress must respond urgently to Republican efforts to cancel elections, defy state constitutions, and redraw congressional maps for partisan control. But the answer cannot be gerrymandering for Democrats. The answer must be redistricting for fairness.
Districts should fairly and realistically represent the communities that live in them — respecting demographics, geography, communities of interest, and voters’ right to meaningful representation. Undoing Republican map-rigging does not mean copying it for another party. It means acting in defense of constituents themselves.
Congress must not allow one party to entrench minority rule by choosing its voters instead of letting voters choose their representatives. We need forceful action to restore fair maps now, along with structural reforms requiring independent, nonpartisan redistricting nationwide.
This is not about securing partisan advantage. It is about protecting representative democracy. I urge you to do everything in your power to support fair congressional maps, oppose partisan and racial gerrymandering, and advance national redistricting reform that ensures every community is represented honestly and equally.
