Oppose the Budget Bill: Harms Health & Rural Communities in MO‑06
To: Rep. Graves
From: A constituent in Saint Joseph, MO
July 1
I am writing as a resident of Missouri’s 6th Congressional District to express serious concern about the Senate passage on July 1, 2025 of the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which now awaits a final House vote before heading to President Trump for signature .
Massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP are at the heart of the bill:
Cuts to Medicaid ($1–1.2 trillion) and SNAP threaten coverage for millions, potentially pushing nearly 12 million Americans uninsured by 2034 .
In Missouri, the bill could leave approximately 130,000 to 160,000 residents without health coverage annually—particularly through Missouri’s MO HealthNet expansion .
Funding shortfalls may force rural hospitals and clinics to scale back or close, stripping basic care infrastructure from communities that need it most .
Why this matters for MO‑06:
MO‑06 is heavily rural and largely reliant on Medicaid funding for access to health care in communities across northern Missouri (Adair, Daviess, Macon, etc.) .
Many constituents depend on SNAP and Medicaid protections, particularly in counties distant from Kansas City proper.
It’s also worth noting that although the Senate bill modestly increased the rural hospital fund—from $25 billion to $50 billion—and delayed Medicaid provider tax cuts, these changes are likely insufficient to offset the deeper damage to coverage and affordability .
Ask:
Please consider opposing this budget bill—or seek to amend it in the House—to preserve federal support for Medicaid, SNAP, and healthcare access across rural communities in MO‑06. The alternatives shouldn’t mean fewer covered families, failing clinics, or diminished care.
I appreciate your attention and advocacy on behalf of our district.
