Please Oppose H.R. 1 and Defend Clean Energy and Environmental Safeguards
To: Sen. Kim, Sen. Booker
From: A verified voter in Boonton, NJ
June 16, 2025
I’m writing as a constituent from Boonton, NJ to urge you to strongly oppose H.R. 1, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” currently under consideration in the Senate. This legislation, which narrowly passed the House, threatens to reverse years of progress on clean energy, climate resilience, and public health protections.
The bill proposes to repeal many of the most effective provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act, including clean energy tax credits and the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund—initiatives that are already helping to lower energy costs, reduce emissions, and grow clean energy jobs here in New Jersey and nationwide.
H.R. 1 would also reduce royalty rates for oil and gas drilling on public lands, expand fossil fuel leasing, and make it harder for federal agencies like the EPA to enact new protections by imposing constraints from the REINS Act. These moves will delay our transition to clean energy and disproportionately harm communities already facing environmental and economic burdens.
I appreciate your ongoing leadership on climate and justice issues, and I urge you to vote against H.R. 1 and speak out against its dangerous rollbacks. Please continue to fight for policies that prioritize public health, environmental justice, and a sustainable future.
