Hello. I am a constituent and I’m writing to ask you to oppose any actions to weaken or dissolve the US Agency for International Development. The work of USAID saves millions of lives every year, while also serving as an integral component of US diplomacy and national security.
Efforts to shut down USAID or dissolve it into another department will weaken access to basic resources and life-saving health care for hundreds of millions of people around the world. In addition, it would defy a congressional statute, threatening the balance of powers between the President and Congress.
I ask you to do everything in your power to prevent this breach of Congress’ legislative authority and the loss of life that would follow in the wake of dissolving USAID. I also ask you to oppose any other attempts to decrease or eliminate federal funding for humanitarian efforts, both nationally and globally. Thank you.
