I am writing to voice my strong opposition to the SAVE ACT which will soon be up for a vote! This is a very obvious voter suppression act! Our current election system has multiple layers of protection built in it and currently only legal citizens can vote. The instances of fraud are extremely rare per the non-partisan Brennan institute! Requiring people to either have a birth certificate or passport is intended to be a barrier to voting! 50% of the population do not have passports and many don’t have birth certificates handy. This is again meant to make it harder to vote and to discourage people from voting. You have gone on record stating we need to ensure our election process is safe. I would suggest you talk with the County election boards and discuss with the Brennan institute if you believe it’s not safe. Suggesting it isn’t is propaganda and misinformation not based on any facts but based on those who don’t like the election results. Despite repeated audits in the past, election fraud was not found. The SAVE ACT is also a way of disenfranchising women from voting since married women will not have the same last name as their birth certificate! I believe all of this is already known however which makes it much more distressing that you also are passing along misinformation by suggesting that the integrity of our elections is compromised. I hope you will vote against this bill but we already know it will be legally challenged as it has no legal standing. Again I hope you will go your job which is to represent Oklahomans and to ensure all Oklahomans can vote- not to make it harder to vote! We are watching repeated attacks on our democracy while you remain silent! It is more than disappointing! It is a betrayal. I hope you will reconsider and remember that your oath is to uphold the constitution. By remaining silent when it is repeatedly under assault, you betray your oath. Do your job!
