Vote NO on H.R. 30

To: Sen. Smith, Sen. Klobuchar

From: A constituent in Minneapolis, MN

January 26, 2025

I am writing to urge the Senator to vote NO on H.R. 30, which just passed the House of Representatives and will likely be brought forward for a Senate vote. This cruel bill will do absolutely nothing to protect Americans from sexual assault (we already have laws for that), but it WILL make undocumented immigrants' lives more dangerous by expanding the Immigration and Nationality Act to allow those who fight back against their abusers in self defense and those who are falsely accused of sexual assault (which isn't hard to imagine given the widespread demonization of immigrants lately) to be detained and/or deported without charge, conviction, or any kind of due process. It's also worth noting that undocumented immigrants commit violent crimes at less than half the rate of US-born citizens. Please do not jump on the disturbing bandwagon of Democratic lawmakers joining their Republican colleagues in demonizing undocumented immigrants. As a Minnesotan, this bill does not at all align with my values. Take a stand for justice and common sense, and vote this bill down.
