Veto library provision restricting access to educational materials

To: Gov. DeWine

From: A constituent in Beavercreek, OH

June 30

<message> The proposed budget provision requiring public libraries to segregate materials related to sexual orientation or gender identity raises significant concerns. Institutions like the Dayton Metro Library have open space designs that would make physical compliance with such segregation impossible, potentially resulting in entire library branches becoming adult-only spaces that deprive families and children of vital access to learning resources, literature, and community programs. This vague and overly broad provision imposes unconstitutional restrictions on access to information, undermining the core mission of libraries to provide free and open access to knowledge for all community members. As a supporter of intellectual freedom, I urge you to veto this unworkable and harmful provision that threatens to exclude children from public libraries across Ohio. </message>
