Preserve automated vehicle crash reporting for effective safety oversight

Companies must report crashes where automated driving systems were involved. This data helps the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) find safety problems with these technologies. Since 2021, NHTSA has looked at over 2,700 crash reports. This data has led to 10 investigations into 6 companies and 9 safety recalls from 4 automakers. Getting rid of this reporting rule would make it very hard for NHTSA to check if automated driving systems are safe. NHTSA needs this information to spot patterns and fix issues quickly before more people get hurt. We should keep requiring companies to report these crashes so NHTSA can do its job of keeping our roads safe.
