Democracy Demands Courage, Not Silence
To: Gov. Ferguson
From: A constituent in Seattle, WA
August 17
Governor,
Across this nation, democracy is under attack. In this moment, silence and timidity are not leadership—they are cowardice.
Governor Newsom of California and Governor Mills of Maine have shown us what courage looks like: fighting back against bullies, refusing to cave, and using the tools of leadership to defend democracy. That is what true leadership demands.
It is shameful that so many governors refuse to act with the same resolve. If you are unwilling to take bold, creative, and unapologetic action to defend your constituents from authoritarian overreach, then you are complicit in its rise.
We demand more from you. Follow California’s lead. Show courage, or step aside for someone who will.
