I am writing as a concerned Wisconsin resident who believes in the inherent dignity and humanity of every person. The presence of ICE detention facilities in our state raises serious concerns about the treatment of vulnerable individuals — including families, children, and asylum seekers — who are often confined under harsh conditions far from legal support and community resources. Wisconsin has long been a state that values compassion, fairness, and the well-being of all its residents. Allowing ICE detention centers to operate here undermines these values, risks human suffering, and damages the reputation of our communities as places of safety and welcome. I respectfully urge you to: Oppose the establishment or expansion of ICE detention centers in Wisconsin. Prioritize humane and community-based alternatives that support migrants, rather than punitive confinement. Ensure state resources are devoted to welcoming and integrating people in ways that strengthen families and local communities. Human beings thrive when treated with empathy, dignity, and respect — principles that are fundamental to both ethical governance and humanistic values. Wisconsin can lead by example by refusing to host detention practices that cause unnecessary trauma. Thank you for your time and consideration.
