An Open Letter

To: Sen. Hawley

From: A constituent in Plattsburg, MO

March 6

Let us revisit some of your recent statements: “It’s a very different thing for us to then say, ‘We are going to offensively, affirmatively go strike Iran or insert ourselves into the conflict.’ That to me is – that’s a whole different matter. I’d be real concerned about that.” 19 June 2025 “The point of American foreign policy should not be to remake the world, but to keep Americans safe and prosperous.” 2019 “The American public is rightly skeptical of open-ended commitments and rightly tired of endless wars.” 8 April 2021 Then of course, you thought you had your finger on the pulse of the president’s thinking with this gem, saying “there’s very little danger” of Trump leading the U.S. into war with Iran. You said this in the context of your opposition to a bipartisan resolution to limit Trump’s war powers in Iran, telling reporters “there’s very little danger” of Trump leading the U.S. into war in Iran. June 2025 Please reply and EXPLAIN your statements with regard to the WAR the president has openly declared on Iran. He calls it a war – he’s certainly not calling it peace. Explain why we are NOT concerned with “our own citizens” ….”FULL STOP”. You said it – now explain it. You voted to keep it underway with no restraints – explain that. I expect nothing less – you yapped and made lots of statements – now explain them.
