I strongly oppose HB521 which would prohibit public funds from covering gender-affirming care for transgender individuals in Utah. Denying access to essential, medically-necessary care for transgender people is discriminatory and unethical. It contradicts recommendations from major medical organizations like the American Medical Association which support insurance coverage for gender dysphoria treatment. Restricting healthcare access will have devastating impacts on the wellbeing and lives of Utah's transgender community, estimated at over 13,700 adults. This cruel legislation perpetuates harmful stigma and must be rejected to uphold equality and human rights for all Utahns. I urge you to vote against HB521 and protect transgender constituents' right to healthcare.
