Oppose the Republican Continuing Resolution
To: Sen. Kaine, Sen. Warner
From: A constituent in Roanoke, VA
March 12
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the Republican-led continuing resolution (CR) that is currently being considered. This bill is deeply concerning, as it prioritizes military spending increases while cutting crucial funding for essential programs that support children, families, public health, veterans, and small businesses.
In addition to these harmful cuts, the CR would effectively hand over significant power to the Trump administration and unelected billionaire Elon Musk, allowing them to reshape federal spending without congressional oversight. This lack of accountability threatens critical initiatives such as Social Security access, medical research funding, and programs that combat substance abuse and mental health issues. Furthermore, the bill’s provisions would enable Musk to direct contracts to his own companies, raising serious concerns about transparency and fair competition.
Instead of passing a CR that undermines congressional authority and harms middle-class Americans, I urge you to support a short-term funding solution that ensures government operations continue while allowing for bipartisan negotiations on a responsible, fair budget. The American people deserve a government that prioritizes their needs over corporate interests and unchecked executive power.
Please stand against this bill and work toward a funding plan that protects essential services and maintains congressional oversight over federal spending.
