NC Needs Continued FEMA Relief Funding after Helene - April 2025
To: Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis, Rep. Foxx
From: A constituent in Greensboro, NC
April 16
I am writing to ask what you are doing to advocate for the state of North Carolina and your constituents for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Our state was hit hard and despite requesting for extended assistance, Governor Stein has been refused by President Trump for additional funds at 100% coverage.
Western NC was never equipped to handle the deluge of rainfall after several days of regular, steady rain, the subsequent mudslides, nor the severe winds of a hurricane hitting so far inland.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) recently released a report indicating that Helene was the deadliest hurricane since Katrina (August 2005).
It caused $53 billion in damage, per an October estimate; that’s three times more than the damage caused by our previously worst hurricane, Florence (2018).
Our neighbors in Western NC were horrifically impacted by Hurricane Helene and many have still not recovered enough to even have proper permanent housing or repairs conducted to the remains of their homes. Some people still do not have access to clean water. Mold damage remains and remediation is going slowly.
These citizens are your constituents and they deserve the reprieve provided by proper deployment of FEMA funds.
What are you doing to help North Carolinians receive the federal funds (FEMA) needed to help them recover from this disaster?
Regards,
