Request From a Military Spouse to Support Veterans
To: Rep. Webster
From: A verified voter in Orlando, FL
March 9
I am writing to you as a military spouse to call for your insistence that Elon Musk and DOGE publicly list specifics of what they are planning to cut from the VA. You proudly proclaim that you are thankful for and support veterans, so it is vital for you to maintain your character by standing for veterans even if your own party is not willing to stand. To be honest, I am still scratching my head at why you voted against the PACT Act of 2022 — although my #1 guess is that it was mostly because its primary sponsor was a Democrat — but there is still a space here to redeem this past betrayal of veterans. Eliminating waste and fraud is, of course, good; however, DOGE has not shown a pattern of using wisdom to evaluate what should be cut in other agencies, so I fear that this planned massive cut is going to hurt primarily disabled veterans — to whom America owes a deep debt of gratitude — more than it will eliminate waste or fraud. I call for you to demand a transparent and public disclosure of exactly what will be cut. Would you be brave enough to sit down face-to-face with disabled veterans and tell them exactly what cuts are being made and how their care will be impacted? It’s well-known that the VA is already understaffed and under-resourced, with horrible wait lists for care. Don’t help to worsen it.
