OPPOSE S.1748 - the Kids Online Safety Act

To: Sen. Budd, Rep. Knott, Sen. Tillis

From: A constituent in Cameron, NC

August 1

I’m writing to you today to oppose the misleadingly-titled Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). This Act is a flagrant attempt at Federal Preemption against the constitutional protections provided by the First & Fourteenth Amendments. Acts of this nature have been passed into legislation before, e.g. the 2018 FOSTA and SESTA Acts, which Digital Rights Foundations have observed the damage these previous legislative actions has wrought upon the people it was supposedly protecting and can predict how like KOSA will further endanger children and open the American public to future data breaches as they browse the Internet. It is not the responsibility of the Federal Government to pick up the slack for individual parenting choices or to maintain a Surveillance state. The responsibility of the Federal Government is to maintain its Constitutionally-enshrined principles and to avoid outsourcing its duties to corporations whose loyalties serve their profit margin instead of the American people.
