I am writing to you as a concerned Maryland resident who has been following the heartbreaking power outage crisis in Northwest Indiana. More than a week after severe storms, tens of thousands of Hoosiers remain without electricity. Families are going without food, refrigeration, or medication, and small business owners are losing thousands in spoiled inventory and revenue. This is not just a local issue. It is a failure of utility preparedness and accountability that should concern every American who expects reliable infrastructure in exchange for their ratepayer dollars.
I am asking you to use your voice in letters, in committee, and in public statements to call for a full federal review of NIPSCO's performance and communication failures. I also urge you to support emergency relief and infrastructure investment that prioritizes resilience over profit margins. While this crisis is in Indiana, the failure of a major utility to serve its communities is a national warning sign. Please stand with these residents and urge your colleagues to press for oversight, accountability, and meaningful reforms so no community, whether in Indiana, Maryland, or anywhere else, is left in the dark for two weeks again.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response.
