Federal legislation has been introduced due to oil company lobbying — HR8330 and S4340 — to give fossil fuel companies full legal immunity from laws or lawsuits to hold them accountable for their role in the climate crisis.
If they succeed, our communities will lose our right to hold polluters accountable for their role in fueling the climate crisis.
Instead of the Big Oil companies that knowingly enabled climate destruction, taxpayers will be left footing the bill for rising seas, severe floods, deadly heat waves, and catastrophic wildfires.
Please do everything in your power to stand up for your constituents and American taxpayers by publicly opposing immunity for Big Oil.”
As we work hard this fall to push the Polluters Pay to Make NJ More Affordable Act across the finish line, our federal representatives must do everything in their power to stand up and fight back against this unprecedented attack on our health, safety and NJ’s constitutional authority to hold corporations accountable for their actions.
This is vitally important for all states. If NJ is able to pass this harmful legislation allowing big oil companies to escape accountability, other states will be pressured to follow their lead and pass laws of their own.
Lobbiest should not be able to by our representatives in Congress. Your obligation is to the people of the state you pledged to represent.
Push back on this amd any other such legislation with your colleagues in Congress and protect the people you are sworn to protect!
