Find Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

To: Sen. Fitzwater, Gov. Kehoe, Rep. Justus

From: A verified voter in Troy, MO

June 2

I received an email this morning from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, regarding Missouri's failure to fully fund its partnership with the program. A little background about me: I became a widow before I even knew I was pregnant-I found out 2 weeks after my husband's funeral. In an incredibly dark time in my life, our daughter is my one bright spot. I want her to grow up to be well-read, educated, and as smart as can be. Isn't that what we all want for our kids? You can't raise good citizens without instilling good habits, like reading, in them. The walk to the mailbox to retrieve our monthly book from "Grammy Dolly" as we call her, is a highlight of our days. I simply do not understand what possible logic there is behind the decision to not fully fund this incredible program. As a taxpayer, I understand that my tax dollars will not always fund things I agree with, but we can all agree our children should have access to literature, can't we? As a voter, I am calling on you to immediately find the funds to keep this vital program going. Letting it go unfunded serves only to harm children, like mine, and God knows life has already dealt her a rough hand.
