Safeguard financial systems and data from political interference

To: Sen. Crapo, Rep. Simpson, Sen. Risch

From: A constituent in Boise, ID

February 11

The concerning actions by political appointees at the Department of the Treasury risk compromising the integrity and security of our nation's financial systems and private data. Elon Musk should not have access to this sensitive information. Safeguarding sensitive payment information and critical infrastructure from potential abuse or exploitation is paramount. Allowing individuals with apparent conflicts of interest and lacking proper training to access this data is unacceptable. Prompt measures must be taken to uphold long-standing norms of nonpartisan oversight and institute robust safeguards to prevent the mishandling of Americans' private financial data or the payments system itself. Protecting our democracy necessitates resolute action to insulate these vital systems from improper political interference or vulnerabilities that could be exploited by adversaries. The risks of inaction are simply too grave.
