As a professional archivist I urge you as my senators and representatives to ensure the next Archivist of the United States is nonpartisan to preserve the integrity and objectivity of the National Archives. The Archives' role as impartial keeper of the nation's history is crucial, and appointing a political loyalist risks selectively rewriting or omitting parts of the historical record. Protecting the nonpartisan nature of this institution is vital to accurately documenting our government's actions for future generations without undue influence or partisan motives. Do not allow the potential politicization of the National Archives to happen under your watch as it would undermine public trust and enable revisionist history.
