As a deeply concerned Connecticut resident, I feel compelled to write to you about the growing threats to our democracy. We are witnessing the erosion of democratic institutions, and decisive action is needed to protect our nation’s core values. I urge you to stand against the rise of authoritarianism and uphold the principles that define our country. The pardoning of January 6th insurrectionists sets a dangerous precedent, emboldening those who seek to undermine democracy. These individuals attempted to overturn a fair election through violence, and absolving them sends the wrong message. Furthermore, the rollback of protections for marginalized communities—including women, minorities, immigrants, and the LGBTQ+ population—threatens civil liberties and undermines decades of progress. I am also deeply troubled by the appointment of Elon Musk to a government position. His erratic leadership, conflicts of interest, and concerning foreign ties pose serious national security risks. At the same time, Trump’s reckless foreign policy—including threats to annex Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal—signals a willingness to destabilize global relations for personal and political gain. His ties to adversarial nations like Russia and North Korea must be investigated to ensure our national security remains intact. Your leadership in advocating for education, working families, and civil rights has been commendable. However, now is the time for bold action to safeguard democracy and fight corruption. As someone who has consistently championed justice and fairness, I trust that you understand the responsibility to act decisively. Like many in Connecticut, I am not passively watching these threats—I am taking action by investing in self-sufficiency, growing my own food, generating power, and securing emergency supplies. That so many feel compelled to prepare for the worst underscores the seriousness of this crisis. I urge you to take immediate steps to: • Support efforts to impeach Donald Trump. • Advocate for the removal of Elon Musk from government. • Strengthen voting rights protections to ensure free and fair elections. • Restore institutional integrity and accountability through bipartisan action. • Resist legislative overreach that threatens civil liberties. Connecticut needs strong leadership to push back against authoritarianism. I appreciate your dedication and urge you to act decisively. The time to act is now.
