Concern for ICE Accountability

To: Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Curtis

From: A constituent in West Valley City, UT

February 1

I am writing as an incredibly concerned constituent about the current state of our so-called “law enforcement." The lawlessness with which they are conducting themselves is deplorable. The people they abduct are not given fair trial or appropriate access to legal counsel as should be guaranteed by our sixth amendment. Not only are they harming innocent people, including non-violent citizens like Renee Good and Alex Pretti, but there has also been no public accountability for these agents. It has been shown repeatedly throughout history, that if you give unqualified people access to dangerous weapons, no consequences for their actions, anonymity, and a dehumanized “other” who they are supposed to remove, you will inevitably get abuse of power and bloodshed. We are seeing this in real time. Do something now! Defund ICE! Remove their masks! Give them names! Make them accountable for what they have done! You claim to be a Christian, and if you live by Jesus Christ’s ideals, you will take the action to resist the coercion of your colleagues and choose the better, more humane path. The English philosopher John Stewart Mill said, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Your voters are watching and your career rests on how you will act now. Please, choose to be on the better side of history.
